Transferable Skills Discussion

Q Discussion Prompt & Reply Instructions Your Initial Post - Due Thursday by 11:59PM Given the textbook and module information on skills, review the following scenario. SCENARIO: Jonathon is in the COS Business Internship Program and is currently completing an internship with a large corporation in Visalia. Each semester the company typically has the interns complete a large project together. The manager explained the project and then asked the interns to determine their roles and divide out the tasks. At this point, the interns all looked at each other and the room went silent. Jonathon then spoke up and asked each of the interns what they felt was their strength. He then outlined it on the dry erase board, noting each intern’s strengths. Jonathon asked what tasks would need to be completed to finish the project. He listed all the tasks and then encouraged his peers to each use their strengths to take on the appropriate tasks. As they began the project, Jonathan created a shared, excel spreadsheet with all needed tasks and then sent weekly reminders and emails so all of the interns would be able to track and include their progress. By the end of the semester, all tasks were completed ahead of schedule. Jonathan organized a group session to practice, outline, and design their multi-media presentation for their manager and board of trustees. Jonathon applied his knowledge of Microsoft (Office) 365 and demonstrated how to use a the Sway, an online presentation tool . He also applied what he had learned from his public speaking class to coach his teammates for the presentation. Needless to say, the project and presentation were a huge success. Jonathon was singled out and hired for an ongoing position with the corporation while he plans to complete his education. PROMPT: 1. Jonathan has many leadership skills. Some transferable skills include: motivating, organizing, time-management, coaching, public-speaking, and planning. An example that includes coaching, public speaking, and motivating is a life coach. Tony Robbins is a perfect example of a well-known life coach. I've been to a few of his UPW events. He speaks to thousands of people at a time and coaches them on business, relationships, health and wellness and more. Every time I leave a Tony Robbins' event I am highly motivated to improve my life. An athletic coach is more common among coaching careers.
